After completing my training, I had many wonderful opportunities to step off the beaten track in Bavaria. This allowed me to better evaluate whether I wanted to live there.

In June 2013, there were floods of the Danube in Regensburg.
Getting Started with a DSLR
In December 2013, an opportunity arose through a former colleague, who was passionate about photography and had switched his camera – I mean, he switched to full-frame – which allowed me to acquire his old camera and promptly equip myself with all sorts of useful items for this hobby.
This camera would accompany me until 2021 – it was the Canon EOS 400D, also known as the EOS Kiss Digital X or EOS Rebel XTI.
Being a tinkerer, just a few hours after the purchase, I installed the alternative firmware extension 400plus on the camera, from which I primarily used features such as extended long exposure or the waving (triggering the camera by activating the display proximity sensor).
However, it had a fault that prevented the built-in flash from automatically popping up – which meant that the automatic programmes, where this function is tested, could not be used.
As a result, I was forced to limit myself to semi-automatic and manual modes, which I had previously only used marginally with the Fujifilm bridge camera (not least because they were rather fiddly to operate).
The photos were taken wherever I happened to be, in Regensburg, in Munich, and in the district of Ostprignitz-Ruppin in Brandenburg.
